marshmallow root marshmallows

Ever wonder how a medicinal plant medicine became well... what it is?

"Nineteenth century doctors extracted juice from the marsh mallow plant's roots and cooked it with egg whites and sugar, then whipped the mixture into a foamy meringue that later hardened, creating a medicinal candy used to soothe children's sore throats. Eventually, advanced manufacturing processes and improved texturing agents eliminated the need for the gooey root juice altogether. Unfortunately, that eliminated the confection's healing properties as a cough suppressant, immune system booster and wound healer." From thought.co

Want to make pink marshmallows? Be my guest! Want to add some peppermint flavor? That'd be great! You're the boss. It was fun to add my marshmallow root to a slightly more traditional version of the original treat.

I also had these adorable lollypop sticks after making my Healthy vegan palm oil free chocolate spoons and thought it'd be fun to make a whimsical marshmallow
