Making your own Diy lip balm with young living essential oils is so simple- anyone can do it! This recipe is all-natural and made with beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, nourishing oil for dry chapped lips, and optional but recommended - essential oils.

As part of our homeschool activities yesterday, I had my seven-year-old daughter make her own chapstick. Staying in, with limited access to specialty ingredients (corona quarantine 2020) made me feel awfully thankful that I had these tools on hand, especially because my little one had some very chapped lips. Our lesson involved more than math by measuring, but also a bit of learning how to create our own sustainable tools to nourish our bodies.

Easy Diy lip balm with young living essential oils

This recipe is as simple as: measure out your ingredients, melt them over a double boiler, pipe them into your container of choice, and let it solidify. This chapstick is identical to the one I shared on valentines day, with the added benefit of jojoba, which made this chapstick glide on smoother and hydrate lips sooner.

How to store your Diy lip balm with young living essential oils

We love our bamboo chapstick tubes and have 16 of them to use for so many different diys. I have an all natural boo boo stick, under-eye circle stick, break out stick, and several types of lip balm stored in these. They really come in handy. These bamboo containers help us reduce waste by allowing us to make our own without having to buy chapstick in plastic packages and containers. However, if you don't have these bamboo sticks, but have an old chapstick at home, don't buy these just yet! Use what you have and recycle the old container. In the past, I was always a lipgloss gal and never used chapstick, so I personally did not have any old containers lying around. But these days, I turn to a nourishing chapstick for dry lips instead of lipgloss.

What essential oils are best for Diy lip balm with young living essential oils

I wanted to make grapefruit or tangerine chapstick for an energizing scent without a tingle, but I let my daughter decide what she wanted to use, and she opted for spearmint. Spearmint, peppermint, and aroma ease are some of my favorite oils. They have so many uses and I love the tingling sensation they provide on the lips. Some of our favorite oils for chapstick are:

  • Grapefruit
  • Tangerine
  • Lavender
  • Citrus fresh (a combination of citrus fruit peels and spearmint)
  • Spearmint
  • Lime
  • Cinnamon

Why you should make your own Diy lip balm with young living essential oils

This chapstick is so soft and nourishing, once you make it you will never want to buy a stick again! Also, stocking up on these ingredients are a great idea because they allow you to have the tools on hand to make so many diy projects like soaps, body butters, candles, etc. I know after this quarantine I'll keep an even larger amount on hand. Making soaps and diys are keeping us busy in this crazy time. Plus, storing them in reused containers or in your new bamboo containers, you'll reduce plastic waste.

Enjoy!

Diy lip balm with young living essential oils

Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Estimated Cost: $10

Making your own Diy lip balm with young living essential oils is so simple- anyone can do it! This recipe is all-natural and made with beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, nourishing oil for dry chapped lips, and optional but recommended - essential oils.

Materials

  • 2 tablespoons beeswax pellets
  • 2 tablespoons shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons nourishing oil like jojoba
  • OPTIONAL:
  • essential oil of choice

Tools

  • chapstick / lip balm container of choice

Instructions

  1. Melt all ingredients except essential oil in a double boiler over boiling water in a small saucepan.
  2. Once melted, remove from heat and add in your essential oil. Because we used peppermint, we used 10 drops of spearmint oil. You may want to use more (20-30 drops) if you're using an oil that does not produce a tingling sensation.
  3. Using a piping stick, pipe up one doppler of your melted chapstick mix and pour into your container. We were able to make six chapstick tubes.
  4. Let sticks sit in room temperature or fridge for at least one hour to let them solidify.
    Enjoy!
