Refreshing + electrolyte filled green tea popsicles with coconut water and lime
Hello friends! Popsicles are one of my favorite recipes to create, due to their simplicity. It’s so easy to blend ingredients together and put it in a pop mold. However, you don’t see them here too often, because they’re also one of my least favorite things to photograph. I tried 3-4 days in a row to capture these translucent beauties without much luck. Finally, I grabbed a few photos of my children (photo above is my daughter Payton holding a pop while enjoying it) and decided just to put the recipe out there. It’s so good and I know you will love it as much as we do!
Popsicles are our friends. Could I get my kids to drink electrolyte filled green tea with lime? Heck no. Do they absolutely love them when in popsicle form? You betcha! But let’s be real. I made this delicious treat for me. On these hot summer days I crave an iced treat, and what better way to indulge than in a flavorful, healthy, antioxidant + electrolyte-rich way?
Why add coconut water to these popsicles?
Coconut water contains electrolytes calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and sodium. Each of the minerals plays a different role in your body in addition to functioning as an electrolyte. Calcium, which is the most abundant mineral in the body, and magnesium both help keep your bones and teeth strong. Coconut water is an excellent replacement for traditional sugar-filled sports drinks.
You can see based on this photo of my little one PJ, who was eating his popsicle and playing in the hose – that it was a very hot day here. When we sweat we need to replenish our electrolytes to keep them balanced. Adding coconut water to your popsicles or smoothies is a wonderful way to replenish electrolytes.
Electrolytes are minerals found naturally in your body fluids, such as plasma. They’re free ions that carry an electric charge. Electrolytes maintain proper muscle and nerve function as well as fluid balance in your body. It’s important to replace the fluid and electrolytes you lose to prevent side effects. source.
Why decaf green tea?
Green tea is also very hydrating and is rich in polyphenols, which are natural compounds that have health benefits, such as reducing inflammation. A day never goes by in the summer that I’m not sipping on a big tall glass of decaf iced green tea. And although green tea has less caffeine than coffee naturally, we have some decaf tea because I like to enjoy it in the evening, and my kids love it too!
This green tea, coconut water and lime flavor combination is so refreshing and screams “summer!” Plus it’s refined sugar-free, sweetened only with honey, which can be omitted if desired! All you need is a few decaf tea bags, coconut water, and fresh-squeezed lime. If you’re a Young Living oiler like me, feel free to use a drop of your lime vitality essential oil for a boost of flavor (ONLY FOR YOUNG LIVING VITALITY BRAND) please do not ever ingest any other brands.
